Fun Facts

The USS Vestal, a repair ship, was moored next to the USS Arizona and provided critical damage control efforts during the attack on December 7, 1941.

Despite being heavily damaged, the crew managed to beach the ship to prevent it from sinking, saving it for future service.

Launched in 1908, the USS Vestal was initially designed as a collier before being converted into a repair ship in 1913.

After repairs, the USS Vestal continued to serve throughout the war, providing essential maintenance to numerous ships in the Pacific Fleet.

The ship was awarded two battle stars for its service during World War II, recognizing its significant contributions.

After decades of service, the USS Vestal was decommissioned in 1946 and sold for scrap in 1950.
