Fun Facts

Jake’s sits inside a 110-year-old hotel garage. Built around 1910 as the Stratford Inn’s carriage and automobile house, it’s one of the oldest surviving beachfront structures in San Diego.

The original ceiling beams at Jake’s are over 110 years old from the 1910 Stratford Inn Garage, where early cars like the Model T once parked, now preserved above the dining room.

Over the decades it served as a hotel garage, a Sheriff’s substation, Coast Guard barracks, an artist studio, and even headquarters of Kaypro, an early personal computer company.

Jake’s has been “on the sand” since 1981 When T S Restaurants opened Jake’s, they turned this historic structure into their first mainland California flagship, modern beach dining.

Jake’s helped define California’s coastal dining style Its blend of fresh seafood, polished service, surf town personality, and floor to ceiling ocean views.

The famous Hula Pie at Jake’s comes from its Hawaii roots The iconic dessert macadamia nut ice cream on a chocolate cookie crust with hot fudge and whipped cream was created at Kimo’s on Maui.

In the 1920s and 30s, this beachfront was a glamorous getaway tied to the old Del Mar Hotel and racetrack, attracting movie stars, musicians, and high profile visitors long before Jake’s existed.

It’s one of the few places in San Diego where you dine literally on the sand At Jake’s you can step from your table to the beach in seconds.

The panoramic windows were designed to frame the ocean like a living postcard The wide glass wall was intentionally built so every seat captures a moving view of the surf, sunsets and coastline.
