This trail provides one of the few accessible viewpoints of the Great Arch of Zion, a massive natural arch carved into the Navajo sandstone.
The Canyon Overlook Trail is approximately 1 mile round trip, making it a relatively short hike with a big payoff in views.
Hikers will experience an elevation gain of about 163 feet, which is manageable for most visitors.
The trailhead is just east of the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel, which was completed in 1930 and was once the longest tunnel of its kind in the United States.
The trail is open year-round, but spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures for hiking.
Hikers often spot bighorn sheep along the trail, as well as various bird species native to the region.
Parts of the trail have railings and steps to assist hikers, especially in steeper sections.
Despite its short length, the trail is popular due to its stunning views, so it's best to visit early in the morning to avoid crowds.
