Wizard Island is a cinder cone volcano that formed after the eruption of Mount Mazama, which created Crater Lake around 7,700 years ago.
The island resembles a wizard's hat, which is how it got its name.
Visitors can take a boat tour to the island and hike the Wizard Island Summit Trail, which offers panoramic views of Crater Lake.
Wizard Island covers about 316 acres and rises approximately 755 feet above the lake's surface.
The island features two craters: the larger, known as the 'Witches Cauldron,' is about 500 feet wide and 100 feet deep.
Despite its volcanic origin, Wizard Island supports a variety of plant life, including lodgepole pines and wildflowers.
The island is located within Crater Lake National Park, which was established in 1902 as the fifth national park in the United States.
