Fun Facts

The USS Cod Submarine Memorial was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986, recognizing its significant contributions during World War II.

In 1945, the USS Cod performed a daring underwater rescue of 55 Dutch submariners, the only international submarine-to-submarine rescue in history.

Unlike many museum ships, the USS Cod has never been modified with modern amenities, preserving its authentic World War II condition.

During its seven war patrols, the USS Cod sank over 12 enemy vessels, totaling more than 37,000 tons.

Visitors can climb through the original hatches and explore the submarine's interior, experiencing the cramped conditions of a WWII submarine firsthand.

The USS Cod is equipped with a rare 5-inch deck gun, one of the few remaining examples of this type on a submarine.

A dedicated group of volunteers works tirelessly to preserve the USS Cod, ensuring its historical integrity for future generations.
