Space Shuttle Atlantis completed the last mission of NASA's Space Shuttle program, STS-135, in July 2011, marking the end of an era in space exploration.
Atlantis flew a total of 33 missions, spending over 306 days in space and traveling more than 125 million miles.
After its retirement, Atlantis found a permanent home at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, where it is displayed as if in flight.
Atlantis was instrumental in delivering key components to the International Space Station, significantly contributing to its assembly and operation.
Atlantis' maiden voyage, STS-51-J, launched on October 3, 1985, and was a classified Department of Defense mission.
The shuttle was named after the RV Atlantis, a two-masted sailing ship that served as the primary research vessel for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution from 1930 to 1966.
The exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center allows visitors to view Atlantis at a 43.21-degree angle, simulating its position in space.
