Seven Lakes Basin is located within the Olympic National Park, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981 due to its unique ecosystems and biodiversity.
Despite its name, the basin contains more than seven lakes, with the most prominent being Lunch Lake, Round Lake, and Clear Lake.
The High Divide Loop, which passes through the basin, is a challenging but rewarding 19-mile trek that offers stunning views of the Olympic Mountains and the lakes.
The basin is home to a variety of wildlife, including black bears, mountain goats, and the elusive Olympic marmot, which is found only in the Olympic Peninsula.
The basin was formed by glacial activity during the last Ice Age, leaving behind a series of depressions that now host the lakes.
The optimal time for hiking in the basin is from July to September when the trails are mostly snow-free and the wildflowers are in full bloom.
