Built in 1819, the New Hampshire State House has continuously hosted legislative sessions in its original chambers, making it a unique historical site in the United States.
The dome, originally covered in copper, was gilded with gold leaf in 1818 and remains a striking feature of the building.
Among them is a statue of Franklin Pierce, the only U.S. President from New Hampshire, who served from 1853 to 1857.
The building is designed in the Greek Revival style, characterized by its grand columns and symmetrical shape, reflecting the democratic ideals of ancient Greece.
A time capsule was buried on the grounds in 1969 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the State House and is set to be opened in 2019.
The plaza is designed to be open and accessible, symbolizing the transparency and openness of the state government.
