The boulder is placed at the exact location where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001, after passengers attempted to regain control from hijackers.
The memorial's design, known as 'A Field of Honor Forever,' was chosen through an international competition and features a 40-foot wall with the names of the passengers and crew.
This 93-foot tall musical instrument contains 40 wind chimes, each representing a passenger or crew member, and is designed to create a living memorial through sound.
Over 150,000 trees have been planted as part of a reforestation project to honor the passengers and crew and to restore the landscape.
The dedication ceremony took place on September 10, 2011, marking a decade since the tragic events.
The Wall of Names is made of white marble and lists the names of all 40 passengers and crew members who lost their lives on Flight 93.
Before becoming a national memorial, the land was used for coal mining, which has since been transformed into a place of remembrance and reflection.
