Fun Facts

Murphy Ranch was constructed in the 1930s by Winona and Norman Stephens, who were followers of a Nazi sympathizer named William Dudley Pelley, with the intention of being a self-sustaining compound for Nazi supporters in the United States.

The ranch features a blend of Art Deco and industrial architecture, with structures like a power station, water storage tank, and a concrete staircase with 500 steps.

The ranch was designed to be a self-sustaining community, complete with its own water supply, power station, and gardens to support its inhabitants.

Today, Murphy Ranch is abandoned and has become a popular hiking destination, known for its graffiti-covered ruins and scenic views of the surrounding area.

In 1941, shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. government raided Murphy Ranch and arrested its inhabitants, effectively ending its operations.

The site is now a canvas for street artists, with vibrant graffiti covering many of the remaining structures, offering a unique blend of history and modern art.

Murphy Ranch is situated in Rustic Canyon, which provides a secluded and lush environment, adding to the mystery and allure of the site.
