Erected in 1968, it was the first monument in the country dedicated to the memory of the 1.5 million Armenians who perished during the genocide of 1915.
The monument features a 75-foot-tall stele, symbolizing the Armenian struggle and resilience, and is surrounded by a circular plaza.
The memorial was designed by architect Hrant Agbabian and sculptor Varaz Samuelian, both of whom were prominent figures in the Armenian-American community.
Every April 24th, thousands gather at the site to honor the victims of the Armenian Genocide, fostering a sense of community and remembrance.
It serves as a poignant reminder of the Armenian-American community's enduring presence and contributions to the cultural tapestry of California.
