Fun Facts

The Little Kobuk Sand Dunes are one of the few Arctic sand dune fields in the world, located within the Kobuk Valley National Park in Alaska.

These dunes cover an area of approximately 25 square miles, making them a significant feature within the park.

The dunes were formed by the accumulation of sand and silt from glacial rivers over thousands of years.

Despite the harsh conditions, the dunes support a variety of wildlife, including caribou and migratory birds.

The area experiences extreme temperature variations, with summer highs reaching 100°F and winter lows plummeting to -50°F.

Due to their remote location, the dunes can only be reached by small aircraft or by hiking in from the nearest road, which is several miles away.

The dunes hold cultural importance for the native Inupiat people, who have lived in the region for thousands of years.
