Spanning an impressive 290 feet, Landscape Arch is the longest natural arch in North America and one of the longest in the world.
In 1991, a significant rockfall occurred, causing a large slab to fall from the underside of the arch, which led to the closure of the trail beneath it for safety reasons.
The arch was named for its graceful, landscape-like appearance, resembling a delicate ribbon of rock stretched across the sky.
Landscape Arch is estimated to be around 65 million years old, formed from the Entrada Sandstone during the Jurassic period.
It is located within Arches National Park, which is home to over 2,000 natural stone arches.
At its thinnest point, the arch is only about 6 feet thick, making it a fragile and delicate structure.
The Devils Garden Trail leads visitors to Landscape Arch, offering a relatively easy 1.6-mile round trip hike.
Due to its delicate nature, efforts have been made to protect the arch from further erosion and human impact by restricting access to its base.
