Fun Facts

The Jones Point Lighthouse, built in 1855, is one of the last riverine lighthouses in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The park contains two of the original boundary stones used to mark the borders of the District of Columbia in the late 18th century.

During World War I, the park area was used for shipbuilding, contributing to the war effort with the construction of wooden ships.

Jones Point Park serves as a scenic endpoint for the Mount Vernon Trail, a popular route for cyclists and pedestrians that stretches 18 miles along the Potomac River.

Jones Point Park was part of the original land ceded by Virginia to form the District of Columbia in 1791, before being retroceded back to Virginia in 1846.
