Built in 1847, the First San Diego Courthouse was initially constructed as a granary before being converted into a courthouse.
The original courthouse was demolished in 1900, and the current structure is a replica built in 1992 to preserve its historical significance.
The courthouse is located within Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, which is dedicated to preserving the early history of San Diego.
It was the first courthouse established under American rule in California following the Mexican-American War.
Aside from serving as a courthouse, the building also functioned as a school and a town hall during its early years.
