Lillie Hitchcock Coit left a substantial sum to the city to beautify it, leading to the construction of Coit Tower in 1933.
The murals were painted by 25 artists and their assistants as part of a Public Works of Art Project during the Great Depression.
From the top, you can see landmarks like Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Bay Bridge.
The tower is designed in an Art Deco style by architects Arthur Brown Jr. and Henry Howard.
Spanning 4.46 miles, the Bay Bridge connects San Francisco to Oakland and is longer than its more famous counterpart.
The Bay Lights art installation, consisting of 25,000 LED lights, illuminates the bridge's western span every night.
When it opened in 1936, it held the title until the construction of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana.
Following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, the bridge underwent extensive retrofitting to improve its earthquake resilience.
